Get ready for an exciting college basketball season, folks! We're about to dive into the heart of the Big Ten conference, and it's time to predict who will reign supreme. The battle for basketball supremacy is about to begin, and it's a heated race!
In just nine days, the Ohio State men's basketball team will make their highly anticipated return, facing off against the Ohio University Bobcats. From there, it's a whirlwind of action with games lined up throughout November, December, January, and February, leading up to the pinnacle of college basketball, the NCAA Tournament.
Last week, our hosts, Connor and Justin, discussed the intriguing overlap between Columbus native Trey Burke's jersey retirement ceremony and Ohio State's game against the Wolverines. This conversation sparked an even more fascinating question: Are there any Ohio State players who deserve the honor of having their jerseys retired, joining the likes of Havlicek, Lucas, Turner, Jackson, and Bradds?
Connor suggested Michael Redd, while Justin proposed Jared Sullinger, a local legend who might one day join the elite club.
As we eagerly await the start of the season, Connor and Justin sat down with 'Boilers in the Stands' host Joe Jackson to preview the Big Ten conference. The trio engaged in a lively debate about which team would emerge victorious, with Justin and Joe favoring Purdue, while Connor backed Michigan. Now, they're ready to share their insights and predictions for the 18-team Big Ten conference.
But here's where it gets controversial... Who will win the Big Ten this season?
Connor's Pick: Michigan
Connor explains, "While Purdue is rightfully at the top of most preseason lists with their returning All-Americans, I'm incredibly impressed by what Dusty May has done for the Michigan basketball program. The addition of Yaxel Lendeborg, a former UAB forward, is a game-changer. He's a versatile player with five years of college experience and the potential to be a first-round NBA draft pick. Lendeborg's ability to play any position and his impressive stats (averaging 15.8 points and 11 rebounds per game at UAB) make him a key asset for Michigan.
Additionally, Michigan has recruited Morez Johnson, a former Illinois forward known for his prowess against Ohio State. Johnson, along with Aday Mara, a 7-foot-3 transfer from UCLA, provides May with excellent options to pair with Lendeborg. Michigan's defense will be a force to be reckoned with, thanks to the size and skill of players like Lendeborg, Johnson, and Mara. They'll employ a strategy similar to Illinois' last year, aiming to disrupt shooters and force them towards the basket, where Michigan's big men await.
May's team may face some shooting challenges, but with consistent shooters like Nimari Burnett and Will Tschetter, and the potential of freshman Trey McKenney, Michigan has the ingredients for a successful season."
